i’m curious to hear what everyone thought of nigel’s attitude and comments this week. i don’t know what they’re ratings are like during the summer but this week they were second to last ahead of the CW shows, 90210 and Melrose Place. i’m just not sure what his purpose was for being so mean to the dancers, the studio audience and the at home audience.
i have many opinions about this but in short, i think it’s ridiculous that he was upset with the voters for not letting him pick off nathan and mollee. this was the first week that the audience got any say in the staying or going. he and the other judges are responsible for the top 20, the choreographers, the dance styles, the format of the show, the ridiculous claims that this is the best group of dancers they’ve had on the show.
And why in the world does he think that the bottom quarter of the cast should be outperforming the top quarter of last season’s? no makey sense.
i think we have a little case of too much of a good thing. the dancers from the last season are still so fresh in people’s minds. so much of what makes this show good is connecting with certain dancers. right now, mollee and nathan are pretty easy to connect with. people like karen and kevin aren’t as much even though (i think) they are better dancers. right now, people will vote for personalities, but when it becomes more obvious with each dance who the more talented people are, the votes will change. i would think after so many seasons, nigel would know this. he just seemed irritable and snarly and it took the fun out of the show. there’s criticism and then there’s party pooperism. also, it took until the last two weeks for anyone to have a stellar solo last year. i second the no makey sense.
yeah, there are always misfires in the bottom three at the beginning. there are just so many couples for the votes to be spread between. the patterns don’t really establish themselves until the audience sees more dancing and there are fewer couples. if you could call in and vote for who you wanted to leave, we’d have a completely different result.
and frankly, i’m not completely sure what they want from people in the solo. it seems they’re after a trickfest disguised as not a trickfest. it’s always obvious that some of the dancers have had the opportunity at some point to get a solo from a good choreographer and some haven’t. i wish they’d give them some time at some point to work with one of the show’s choreographers on a solo. Especially the ballroom dancers.
i agree. except, i don’t want them to do what they did the year of the john mayer song. same song, same routine. i was begging for one of the dancers to just break the mold and do some crazy moves instead of the same. thing. every. single. time.
dude. the ballroom dancers solos should be renamed “I Shaka Shaka My Hips” ’cause that’s what they do… for the entire time. it’s painful.
am i the only one who is NOT seeing what the judges (esp Adam) are seeing in Hot Lady? every week they are like “OOGA OOGA you’re AMAAAAZING” and i’m like, i get the ooga ooga, but the amazing? i’m confuddled.
